My child went to school today without a diaper for the first time in her life. In fact, I returned from BlogHer to a mostly toilet trained child and still haven't been quite able to wrap my arms around how that happened in just a few short days and without Her Mother Being Present but I'll gratefully acknowledge that it is indeed not all about me. But I'd be lying if I didn't admit I have a smallish ache for Another Baby For The First Time In My Life. Holy shit. Maybe I should put her diaper back on. Seems easier than having another kid. Kidding. I Am Not Going To Have Another Kid. Really. I think. Whatever. Dude.
It's time for our eighth Just Post Roundtable. After a brief hiatus Mad is back in the saddle and our Just Post co-hosting has resumed as usual. Wow! And props to her! I don't think I would have minded AT ALL had someone else taken over the chore of toilet-training.
So jealous. I spend all my free time saying, "Git your hand outta there!" I realize that getting the boy out of diapers is not going to change that, but, but, it bugs me.
Wow, rock on M!
I hear you, but wow, WTG M! And can I ship Persistence there to be finished up? Will your marvelous trainer also take care of the tantrums, cooperation, and getting into every bloody thing issues too? please? LOL
I understand that ache of milestones happening when I'm not around. It's pretty amazing how quickly it clicks and suddenly she's diaper-free. Dude, life becomes so much easier when you're not always worried about a diaper and where to change it.
On the other hand, you always have to know where the nearest loo is. They can't always wait long
I vote for another baby! I want more and more mini-Jens. And a breastfed baby is really easy to transport around the world, you don't need to change your plans at all
Oh, dude. That's crazy. But I understand. And I, too, would selfishly love to have more of your offspring in the world.
Fantasic!!!
Em started using the potty 3 weeks ago and it is so so so wonderful.
Kudos to Dad! I think my kids would go to college in diapers if it were up to John.
These milestones are always so shockingly poignant when we get to them, aren't they? Luckily for me, The Baby is MONTHS away from toilet training. Great.
yes, I failed potty training and had my mother train my three year old while I traped around southeast asia pretending to be young and single...my mother aced it!
You should go away more often, maybe next time she'll learn to cook.
It still amazes me that they can master that at such a relatively young age. Each day that Jolie comes home from school in the same underwear and shorts, I'm like, wow. More babies? Is this the soul-mate next year? Sorry. Had to say that.
Well, that kind of sounds like a dream come true to me. I have to go away in a week - fine by me if we go from 2 pees! in the potty to toilet trained. But then again, #2 is already on the way ;)
Great news, Jen! And in some eery way, we're linked again. It must be because our children are so close together in age. I came home and Hollis seems to be potty trained as well.
I didn't have time to get that baby ache before actually having another baby, but it's a powerful thing. Better bust out that condom lollipop. Just in case.
I have been amazed at how fatherhood has made me so congnizant of poop and pee. I can now converse for twenty or more minutes just on bowel movements and uric acid crystals.
Maybe I am in the "babymoon" phase, but the changing baby doesn't bother me yet. It is one of the few activities that I can do with him aside from cuddling and sleeping. I am jealous that Mommy gets the breastfeeding. Well, I will have to think about that one a bit more as I see my beautiful wife wince as he pinches a bit.
Congratulations! On the potty training, I mean. As for the baby-wanting urges...proceed with caution. That biological drive can kick in strong.
I look forward to a diaper-free future at some point, but it's a way off. (I'm already back in the baby-wanting stage.)
One of the hardest, yet ultimately best, parts of momhood is having your child achieve things without you being the instrument of that achievement. It wrings at the Mother Heart...but then it's a relief to know that your child's entire world doesn't hinge on you. No, really.
As I look back on my life, I'm mostly thankful to my mom for all the moments I did something without her. If that makes any sense.
At any rate, you're cool, baby.
Absentee potty training is the best kind of potty training there is. Splendid, M!
I read your words and I YEARN for you baby.
YEARN.
Wandering off now to go fondle my secret stash of pics of you....
Lucky you! My baby is still months away from toilet training, and that's okay. I just wish she would stop trying to wipe for me when I'm on the toilet. Sheesh. Where are the boundaries?
PS: When I saw a 'Jen' comment on my blog, I thought it was one of my lurky life friends. But it was you! Thanks for stopping by. If I knew you were coming, I would have cleaned up the place a little bit.
I came home and Jane's doing somersaults and also peed on the potty! Unbelievable.
I think I shat myself.
Wow. I am mondo impressed. Does anyone even say "mondo" anymore? Well, that is still how impressed I am. ;)
The new baby aches. *sigh* Keep those suckers away from me.
And how'd that whole No Diaper thing go? Bossy is thinking about giving up her own...
Ah but now you get to launder little girl panties. I titter just thinking about the joy in that.
how quickly that sweet, milky babiness slips by....but not without forever imprinting us.
welcome to the land of 'big kid'!
and hey....summertime is the best time for potty training/practice!
go little M go (literally) :)
I went away for the night when my son was 10 months old. When I left he was crawling, when I returned he was walking. Sigh...
Way to go, M!! My little man is still fighting it here and there - there are hours (and days) when he wants his diaper and I have to admit, sometimes I don't really mind, deep down, because I know he's getting big so fast. BUT, on the surface, I despise changing his diaper! And the odd thing with him is that he's SO capable and when he wears his undies all day he doesn't even need our help to go!
SIGH. They're growing up fast, diapers or not.
Wow.. who knew? I had no idea it could happen so fast. Admittedly... ignorant about such things. :)
Peace,
~Ch
Pretty cool that change mean the absence of constantly changing diapers. They grow up so freakin' fast. Don't waste a single moment, not that i believe you would.
BTW, it was an honor to toast with you in Chicago.
Well, I'm with kgirl - that would be the dream situation for me right now. Come November, I will be changing a LOT of diapers. And the Boy is already in size 6. I don't think they make 7, do they..?
When it clicks, it clicks. Congrats to M!
Hooray for potty stuff!!
BTW, sometimes I do think that diapers are easier...
can your potty guru come and change my very reluctant son? or can M just give him a call and give him a little encouragement?
Oh, never, ever say "never".
But am completely jealous over the potty-training thing; especially the part where you came home and it was complete.
what meno said. i am looking forward to finding out how the "potty training" curriculum is going to work on Peep this year at Montessori...
meno's comment made me laugh out loud.
When my son gave up diapers, he simply announced he was going to preschool in underwear that day. He'd never gone near a toilet. He got dressed, I dropped him, and the warned the school. They said, no problem. And that was that. He was toilet trained. Love that institution!
Baby pangs. Hmmm. Interesting...
Beware the potty trained child! That is exactly when I got the pangs, too.
I now have four children. Number four will be wearing a diaper for the next six years, if I'm smart.
Horray for the potty, M!!!
The potty rocks!
Carrie
ps. You are cracking me up . . . "I don't want to have another kid. Really. I think."
Congrats on the potty training!
If you're thinking of having a second kid I will too. But you go first. ;)
What a welcome home gift!!!
Mine poop fingerpainted while I was in Chicago.
Glad I was there and not around the poop.
That was nice and a very nice surprise!
Congrats on the potty-training. (It took my son about seven months. That was because he wanted to before he was ready...)
And you'll get my just post links soon.
My friend just had her second baby and I felt the pangs (but for only a few seconds, but man those pangs were strong!)
Oh, I forgot to say congrats to M for a job well done! What a big girl!!!
